OUR EXPERT TOP TIPS FOR CANDIDATES IN THIS CLIMATE

Staying motivated during this unexpected time can be difficult. This situation is alien to everyone, and it can therefore be hard to focus on the future. With that in mind, we’ve collected a portfolio of advice from our fantastic team with an aim to inspire and stimulate you to keep pushing forward with your job search. Taking action now will set you above the competition and propel your career. Sounds great? Keep reading!

1. Keep Positive

“Positivity is key. It’s easy to think that we won’t ever get back to the way things were, but it is essential that you don’t let yourself fall into that mindset. Those of you working in the Hospitality industry have arguably taken the heaviest hit of all- but you will come back stronger! My biggest piece of advice is to help yourself and others in a positive way, whether you’re spreading positive news to fellow hoteliers, or simply staying at home!”

2. Plan & Prepare

I would advise my candidates to look at this time as an opportunity to plan and prepare for their next steps. It is very easy to get caught up and not look to the future… but remember, this situation is not everlasting.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and companies are still hiring. Make use of this time to ensure you are actively seeking new opportunities and presenting yourself in the best way possible.”

3. Get Ahead Of The Crowd

“Keep calm and use this time wisely. It may feel uncertain, and it is. However, one thing we do know is that this will not last forever and soon our industry will be back to its best.

During this period of uncertainty, take advantage of your free time. Study for relevant exams, research the market, and contact your preferred agency to ensure your profile is current. Get ahead of the crowd! When things recover and there is a surge in hiring, it is vital you are in the best position possible.”

4. Stay In Touch With Loved Ones

“Keep yourself grounded during this time by keeping in contact with family and friends. Video calls can be very refreshing, and are perfect for your mental health and motivation. A positive attitude will make your job search easier and a lot less stressful.

I would also recommend searching for positive news and remembering that this is not going to last. Use this time to your advantage to ensure you come out stronger than ever.”

5. Don’t Play The Field

“Working with multiple recruitment agencies at this time (or any time) is not the way forward. It is likely that if you do not pick just one respected firm to represent you to the market, your CV will be on every Hiring Manager’s desk… multiple times! This will make you appear desperate, disloyal, and significantly reduces your chances of being hired. It’s all about first impressions.”

Recruitment Manager – Technical

6. Do Your Paperwork!

“Use this time wisely by doing your paperwork and getting organised! Start by updating your documents, improving your cv to be the best it can be, and ensuring that you have written references available. If you don’t, I would advise you to contact your previous employers now.

This is your time to think about what you want for your future in readiness for the upcoming season. Please don’t stop hunting, as your industry will need your skills and talent when this is all over!

Particularly within the UHNW industry, many yachts are still recruiting- so don’t be the last to secure a position for the Med season. When all of this blows over, competition will increase, so get ahead of the game now!”

7. Don’t Lose Your Spark

“Do your best to stay happy, positive and determined in this tough and strange time. Your hard work and dedication now will all pay off once this has blown over. Don’t lose your spark.”

Operations Assistant

Bojana Petrovski
Business Development Director

8. Self Reflect

“Even in the current economic climate, it is important to consider the suitability, expectations, and company culture of the roles you are put forward for. The world is changing rapidly, and what was right for you yesterday may not be the case today.

It takes experience and self reflection to identify your skills, what you stand for, and the culture you best fit into. Use this time to consider your previous roles and figure out what’s most important to you in a role.

If you are in need of assistance, I would highly recommend getting in touch with one of our expert consultants, who each have the honesty and integrity to assist you in overcoming adversity to find success.”

Whilst it’s a trying time, globally, we want to reassure all of our candidates that we are still working for you and with you.
